The game of Bowls started as early as the 15th century. In the early days, Walt Disney played it, George Washington played it too: so in between wives, did Henry VIII. Other bowlers include James I, Charles I and Charles II, Dr. W.G. Grace, William Shakespeare, Robert Burns and of course Sir Francis Drake.

The rules of bowling are controlled by the International Bowling Board (IBB), and Kenya Bowling Association (KBA) is a member. Mombasa Sports Club is affiliated to KBA, which was formed in April 1954. Mombasa Sports Club opened its Bowling Green on Saturday, 28th June, 1958 and affiliated to the KBA on 28th July, 1958. Mombasa Sports Club grew stronger in 1990 with an upsurge of many new and keen bowlers. I t soon became one of the strongest bowling clubs, having won National titles, and representation in the National Team for African States Tournaments and World Bowls 1996. Christ and Doug Christy, who encouraged the new bowlers in 1989/90. They left for Nairobi in 1991 and soon after Daphne met her death in a tragic car accident. 

The Section boasts 34 registered bowlers at the moment, and it has one of the finest greens in Kenya. New bowlers are always welcome "It takes five minutes to learn, but a lifetime to master"
