Sixteen year old Zul
namajee a student at Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa won the Wason
Trophy Handicap Snooker Tournament held at the Mombasa
Sports Club. He beat Rajen Malde by four frames to three in
a best of seven frames final played on Tuesday, 31st
July, 2007.
In a very well contested
match both players played some excellent snooker and at
one stage it seemed Zul would win it easily after going into
a three frames to one lead but Rajen came back very strongly
to equalize and make it a winner take all last frame. The
last frame was going neck to neck till Zul broke away on the
last two reds with two consecutive blacks which gave him a
big lead and at this stage Rajen needed a snooker with Zul
making sure of the title by potting the pink to end the
game.
The final was witnessed by
the Chairman of the Mombasa Sports Club Mr. Patrick Ochwa
who also gave away the trophies to the worthy winners.
The captain Alihusein
Namajee thanked the Chairman, all his committee members and
the participants for their support. He also thanked the
sponsors of the tournament Mr. Dhiru Shah and the Wason
family for their kind gesture. The captain also urged all
the youngsters to practice hard and play the game seriously
as the next tournament will be sponsored by Kenya Shell who
have given a sponsorship of Kshs. 20,000/-
